Disaster management in Europe is shifting from individual national responses toward a more integrated framework. As the scale of environmental and technical risks increases, coordination between countries has become a practical necessity for public safety.
A recent report from CORDIS outlines how ten EU-funded projects (PARATUS, C2IMPRESS, RiskPACC, GOBEYOND, MEDiate, MEDEWSA, NIGHTINGALE, RESCUER, The HuT, and TRANSCEND) are working to standardise disaster preparedness. These initiatives focus on connecting high-level policy with practical, local-level implementation. The work includes developing technical tools for emergency responders and establishing clearer protocols for cross-border data sharing.
The work emphasises the importance of shared data and community engagement in creating a secure environment. By integrating AI-powered triage and people-centered assessment frameworks, these efforts aim to establish a more robust disaster management system across the continent.
