The PARATUS project marked a major milestone by hosting its final project event on Monday, June 29, 2026, at The Hotel Brussels. The event gathered researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to share insights, review key results, and discuss future pathways for systemic disaster risk management.
The final meeting was structured to provide both hands-on technical engagement and strategic reflection. The morning session featured the PARATUS Tool Workshop, where participants explored the suite of co-developed tools integrated into the Disaster Risk Stakeholder (DRS) Hub. Through a “World Café” setup, attendees interacted with various platform components, including FastFlood, the Caribbean Dashboard, and methods for participatory forensic analysis. The afternoon session transitioned into the PARATUS Final Workshop, opened by Giannis Skiadaresis, DRS Area Coordinator at DG HOME. This segment featured panel discussions reflecting on stakeholder perspectives from the project’s four regional case studies—the Alps, Bucharest, Istanbul, and the Caribbean—as well as panels addressing the science-policy-practice interface and the long-term uptake of the project’s research. The day concluded with an exhibition of interactive poster presentations, augmented reality demonstrations, and serious games designed by the project team.
Following the final project meeting, PARATUS transitioned directly into the CERIS “Disaster Resilience Days” conference, which took place from June 30 to July 2, 2026, at the same venue. On June 30, PARATUS co-organized an interactive, two-part session on foresight in disaster resilient societies alongside fellow Horizon Europe-funded projects. This collaborative session allowed attendees to experience serious games, simulations, and foresight tools designed for crisis preparedness. On July 1, the project’s research was further highlighted during a panel discussion on “Whole-of-Society Preparedness”, where Funda Atun from the University of Twente represented PARATUS in discussions concerning citizen engagement, local preparedness ecosystems, and community resilience networks. Together, these events provided a platform to demonstrate the practical application of PARATUS tools and contributed to cross-sector collaborations aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness across Europe.
