On 24–25 June 2025, the PARATUS project proudly participated in the Security Research Event (SRE) held in Warsaw, Poland. Under the theme “Boosting security through EU-based innovation,” this flagship event brought together over 600 participants from across Europe and beyond — including researchers, policymakers, law enforcement, industry, and civil society — to discuss the future of civil security and innovation.

PARATUS was featured both in the exhibition area, showcasing its tools and methodologies, and on the main stage, where Funda Atun from the University of Twente represented the project in a high-level panel titled “Building a disaster-resilient Europe: Innovation as a catalyst for crisis preparedness.”

During the panel on the morning of 25 June, Funda Atun shared the research perspective on the innovation landscape for disaster risk management, highlighting two of PARATUS’s key contributions:

  • The Disaster Risk Stakeholder Hub, a collaborative digital platform supporting data and knowledge sharing across disciplines and regions.

  • The use of serious games to enhance stakeholder engagement and risk awareness in complex, multi-hazard environments.

Funda’s intervention emphasized the critical role of co-creation and transdisciplinary collaboration in developing practical tools for end users and decision-makers. The panel, which also included a practitioner and a representative from the European Commission, addressed both challenges and enablers of innovation in the field of crisis preparedness and disaster resilience.

The PARATUS booth was visited by numerous stakeholders interested in systemic risk assessment, cascading hazards, and participatory approaches. This offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen connections with projects and initiatives across the EU civil security landscape.

PARATUS was pleased to be part of this vibrant and inspiring environment and looks forward to continuing collaboration across the European security research community to build more resilient, prepared, and connected societies.
