D3.4 Serious games
The deliverable 3.4 presents the co-development and testing of serious games within the PARATUS project as tools to support multi-hazard risk awareness, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making under uncertainty. Grounded in established methodologies such as the CompleCSus framework, Design Thinking the report outlines a four-phase workflow: research and conceptualization, scenario and role design, prototyping and iterative testing, and implementation and evaluation.
Multiple games tailored to specific case study needs—ranging from cross-border collaboration in the Alps to crisis communication in Bucharest—were co-developed and tested with diverse stakeholders, including emergency responders, policymakers, and community actors. The games were designed to simulate cascading risks, foster strategic decision-making, and enhance participatory learning. Supporting materials were created to ensure future adaptability, ease of facilitation, and long-term use beyond the project’s lifecycle.
